Johan “Stiggy” Stigefelt left his seven year long MotoGP racing career behind and took on a new challenge in life - which was to start up his own motorcycle racing team. Only 29 years of age, “Stiggy” (the youngest team owner in history) managed to put together an all-Scandinavian racing team for the Supersport World Championship in 2005. For the two first years, “Stiggy” was not only the founder and manager of the Stiggy Motorsport Team, but he was also one of the riders. The team made an explosive entry in the championship, finishing 11th and 13th in the overall standings in their very first year. In only their second year, the team had their first podium finish, with Danish rider Robbin Harms scoring second place in the Italian round in Monza. After that, the team had two further podium places in 2007 and, no doubt, there’s many more to come.
From a small beginning, the team has grown to become a 12 man operation including mechanics, technicians, data logging expert, administrator, plus riders in just three years. Alongside the technical aspect, the team also have their own hospitality area with a staff of five, including a chef and serving personnel.
Pursuing his life goal and dreams, “Stiggy” is once more facing another challenging season ahead. Together with the team’s new title sponsor HANNspree, the bar has not only been raised higher then ever before, but it has also created a new challenge and opportunity for the team. A further vital element is the strong relationship with manufacturer Honda, who are playing an important role in the process of achieving results.
“I’m very pleased to welcome our title sponsor HANNspree onboard. This is an incredible opportunity for us and a chance to show and prove our potential in the Supersport World Championship. I’m also very happy that Joshua and Robbin are staying with the team for another season. I’m more than convinced that we can reach fantastic goals and get some great results this season. Our aim, as always, is to constantly increase the level of our performance and to nurture our sponsors and supporters in the best possible way.
